As much as we love fitness at Brio Leisure, we know it can be tough to keep your motivation up through the winter months.
It’s dark, cold, and if we’re being honest, wrapping up warm in front of the TV is a very tempting prospect! Beat the Winter Blues!
You may have heard of Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD – basically the long, dark nights and cold weather can make you feel down and a bit depressed. It’s not nice as it can make it harder to get out of bed in the morning, or to do anything other than simply sitting in front of the TV. Regular exercise has been shown to help fight against the effects of SAD though, and with our Healthy Elfie special offer, you don’t have to spend much at all to get access to regular exercise! There’s plenty of variety too, so you can vary things throughout the week with the gym, swimming in any of our pools, or joining in with any of our 450 weekly fitness classes! Classes in particular are a great way to beat the winter blues because they have a fantastic social aspect to them as well as the obvious health benefits.

A good workout will get your blood pumping, and so you’ll feel warmer long after you’ve finished exercising. If you’re trying to save on your gas bill, then getting out to the gym and working up a sweat will mean you’ll feel much warmer when you get home, without having the heating on! You can get the whole family feeling the burn too with a game of badminton or squash.
Avoid the Winter Warmer Cravings
During the winter months we all crave those delicious foods that help keep us warm during the cold nights – roast dinners, soups with lots of crusty bread, stews and more. While these aren’t all necessarily unhealthy, it’s very easy to overeat when you’re faced with such tasty temptations as these. Regularly exercising will help offset any extra food intake you might have, so you won’t see as much of an impact on your body.
