Get your trainers on and join our Beginners Running Club in Winsford!

Scared to start running? Don’t fret, we’ve got you covered with our fabulous new Beginners Running Club at Winsford Lifestyle Centre!

Running is a great way to get fit – it’s simple, social, and everyone can get involved. There are actually some barriers to running though, and our new club aims to break them down! Do any of these sound familiar?

I’d love to be able to run, but I don’t know where to start!

Don’t worry, you’re not alone! It may sound silly, but loads of people don’t actually know how to run properly. It’s not just about putting one foot in the other, there’s gait, stride, body posture and more to consider. While these aren’t hugely important as a beginner, learning about them will ensure you don’t pick up any bad habits as you’re starting out. Jo, our club instructor, has 15 marathons and 2 iron man challenges under her belt, so you’re in good hands! She’ll make sure you’re running safely and properly, meaning you can build your confidence and improve your ability quickly.

I’m too scared to go alone

We completely understand this! It can be very intimidating to stick on your bright workout gear and start running outside, especially if you’re only just starting out. That’s the beauty of the club though – not only are you in a group, but everyone’s a beginner! You can take comfort in the fact that you’re not alone, and that others will be of a similar level.

It’s boring!

As well as the run, Jo throws in a mini fitness circuit halfway through the session. This lets you build up your overall cardiovascular fitness levels in a way that isn’t running, and helps mix things up. It’s also definitely worth mentioning the social aspects of a running club! You’ll make new friends, and with your abilities improving week-on-week, it certainly won’t be boring!

Our Beginners Running Club leaves from Winsford Lifestyle Centre and heads to St Andrews Park, before coming back along the River Weaver to the centre. The total distance is usually around 5k, and takes a gentle pace so it really is perfect for those just starting out. Sessions are every Wednesday from 5.45pm – 6.45pm.

You can book your place by calling the centre on 01606 550700! If you have any other questions about the session, just get in touch with the centre directly on their new Facebook page!
