5 ways to make that early morning workout happen!

So, you’re trying to be good and get a workout in before you start your workday, but we know it’s not easy so we thought we’d help you out!

Starting your working day with exercise is a fantastic thing to do. Not only are you getting your workout over and done with, leaving you to focus on the rest of your day, but you’ll kickstart your metabolism and find yourself feeling more energised and ready to tackle challenges to. Plus, you can’t beat an empty gym or a quiet fitness class, can you?

That’s great, now we need to tackle the hardest thing about early-morning workouts though – getting out of bed. Dragging yourself out of a warm, comfy bed to go and do pushups, burpees and squats can be really tough, so we’ve put together a few top tips that’ll ensure you’re out of bed early and getting active before you head to the office!

Set alarms (yes, plural)

If you’re anything like us, then you’ll be hitting snooze as soon as your alarm goes off, and going straight back to sleep. Or worse, you’ll accidentally turn the alarm off altogether and by the time you wake up, you’ll be rushing to get to work and any hope of an early morning workout is out the window!

Setting multiple alarms is the key to waking up. Set three alarms to go off in quick succession, 15 minutes earlier than you need to get up. Even if you don’t jump out of bed straight away, having to turn off three alarms will at least ensure you’re wide awake and ready to get up. You can even have a bit of fun and label the alarms with motivational messages, such as “I’ve got this!”, or use one of your favourite upbeat songs as the alarm to get you in the mood for moving.

Perfectly Prepared

If you can barely see straight in the morning, then getting into your workout clothes is basically impossible. Do yourself a favour and get everything ready to go the night before. Lay your clothes, socks, trainers and bag out by your bed so you can just roll out in the morning and slide straight into them.

If you’re really struggling then you can even just go to sleep in your workout clothes. That way you literally just need to get out of bed in the morning and you’re practically ready to work out!

Water way to start the day!

You’ve just spent about 7 hours fast asleep without drinking anything, so you’re going to be a bit dehydrated. Drink a nice big glass of water to ensure you’re hydrated before you workout and don’t forget to take your water bottle with you too!

Fuel up

Have something small to eat before you workout for a little jolt of energy. A piece of fruit or a few spoonfuls of peanut butter will hold you over until it’s time for breakfast.

Catch some zzz’s

This one’s obvious, but if you’re working out before work, you’ll need to be up early. This means you should be going to sleep earlier to ensure you’re not missing out on vital sleep. On the plus side, you’ll probably be so knackered from a full day of work as well as the early morning workout that you’ll be asleep before your head hits the pillow.
