Badminton Rules Double Service13 Aug
Badminton is a fast-paced and exciting sport, especially if you play in a team! If you are new to the game or need a refresher, it’s good to understand the rules of a double badminton service.
In this blog, we will break down the fundamental rules of badminton doubles to help you get started.
So, get your racquets at the ready, and let’s play badminton!
How To Serve In Badminton
- In doubles, the service court is smaller and wider than in singles, making serving more strategic.
- The serving side has one player serve until they lose a point at the start of the game. Players take turns serving, switching sides after each serve.
- Service Rotation: The server serves from the right court when the score is even and the left service court when the score is odd. Players switch service courts after winning a point on their serve.
- For a legal serve, the player must hit the shuttle below their waist with the racquet shaft pointing
downwards in an underhand motion.
Scoring System
- Rally Point Scoring: Players compete in a best-of-three format, with each game reaching 21 points. Every rally results in a point, regardless of which side serves.
- To win a game, a team must reach 21 points first, with a lead of at least 2 points. If the score ties at 20-20, play continues until one side leads by 2 points, up to a maximum of 30 points.
- Winning a Match: The match is won by the team who wins two out of three games.
Service Sequence
- The initial serve is delivered diagonally from the right service court to the opponent’s right service court.
- If the serving side wins the rally, the same server continues but from the alternate service court.
- If the receiving side wins the rally, the serve moves to the next player on their side.
The Rules Of Badminton Service
- Rotation: Players maintain their service courts unless they win a point while serving, at which point they switch.
- Common badminton faults include hitting the shuttle out of bounds. Another common fault is not clearing the net. Additionally, touching the net with the racquet or body is also a common fault.
Lets
A let stops play and players must replay the rally. This can occur if a serve touches the net but lands in the correct service court or because of an unexpected interruption.
General Rules
- Team Communication: Good communication and coordination are important. Players can change positions during a rally but must follow rotation rules.
- Players must hit the shuttlecock only once per side and should not rest or carry it on the racquet during shuttle handling.
