Yoga is a form of exercise that has been practiced for thousands of years and has become increasingly popular in recent times due to its numerous physical and mental health benefits. If you’re a beginner looking to get into yoga, then you’re in the right place!

Here, we’ll be discussing some of the most important yoga techniques for beginners to help you get started on your yoga journey. You can also book yourself onto one of our yoga classes with our fully trained and experienced instructors. They’re completely free if you’re Brio Premier member as well.

Proper Breathing

The first and most important yoga technique for beginners is proper breathing. This is known as pranayama, and it is the foundation of all yoga practices. Proper breathing helps to calm the mind, reduce stress and increase focus. Start by finding a quiet place where you can sit or stand comfortably, close your eyes and focus on your breath. Take deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Repeat this several times and gradually increase the number of breaths you take.

Your Posture

Another important technique for beginners is proper posture. Good posture is essential for avoiding injury and getting the most out of your yoga practice. When performing yoga postures, make sure to keep your body aligned and avoid slouching or slumping. Stand tall and keep your shoulders relaxed, and make sure to engage your core muscles.

Sun Salutations

Sun Salutations are another great technique for beginners to start with. They are a series of 12 postures that warm up the body, stretch the muscles, and get the blood flowing. Sun Salutations are a great way to get into the yoga mindset, and they can be performed at any time of the day.

Downward-Facing Dog

Downward-Facing Dog is a classic yoga pose that is perfect for beginners. This pose helps to stretch the hamstrings, calves, and spine, and it also strengthens the arms and legs. To perform Downward-Facing Dog, start on all fours, lift your hips up towards the sky and straighten your arms and legs. Keep your head relaxed and your gaze focused on your feet.

Child’s Pose

Finally, the Child’s Pose is a great pose for beginners to try. This pose helps to stretch the hips, thighs, and back, and it also calms the mind and reduces stress. To perform Child’s Pose, start on all fours, sit back on your heels, stretch your arms out in front of you, and rest your forehead on the ground.
