Looking for fulfilling, flexible work that’ll fit around your lifestyle? Train tomorrow’s Olympic champions by becoming a Swimming Teacher!

Whether you’re a student looking for part-time work, a parent who wants to fit in work around childcare commitments, or even if you’re retired and just fancy earning some extra money, teaching young people to swim is a fantastic thing to consider.

terrapins swim teacher

Chester Terrapins is a club run by volunteers for individuals who present with all manner of disability, with the exception of severely affected people who might struggle to make use of the facilities or have difficulty engaging with us in a meaningful way. The club has been in existence in Chester since 1968 and was set up by a King’s School PE teacher, his wife and a local physiotherapist.

Our volunteers are not expected to be disability experts or have in-depth knowledge of any disablement. We want them to help our members enjoy being in the water either with self-sufficient swimming or supported. Training is given on supporting the swimmer in the pool, which is ongoing and will vary with the disability, e.g. a helper might be asked to swim alongside someone encouraging their progress or helping them to float unaided.

role description:

With the above in mind, we need people who are:

  • Able to swim
  • Kind and caring
  • Patient
  • Non-discriminatory
  • Positive and happy
  • Have a sense of humour
  • Willing to interact with individuals 1:1
  • Commitment to at least 2 swim sessions a month

We don’t assist swimmers with personal care, such as helping in the changing rooms; the support we give is purely pool-based.

There are no formal interviews for this position.
