The many health benefits of swimming!16 May
There are a long list of health benefits associated with swimming, some of which we want to share with you, which we hope will encourage you to dig out your swimming gear and jump in your nearest Brio Swimming Pool!
Swimming offers the ability to do aerobic exercise without the harsh impact on your joints. The pool is the ideal place to work stiff muscles and sore joints, especially if you’re overweight or suffering from arthritis. Swimming is also a great way to increase muscular strength and muscle tone. Water is approximately 12 times denser than air, so every kick and stroke becomes a resistance exercise. Swimming also improves flexibility as it pushes the body through a range of motions which helps joints and ligaments stay loose and flexible.
Swimming is also a great way to improve the most important muscle in your body – the heart! We have already explained that swimming is an aerobic exercise which will strengthen the heart which leads to better blood flow throughout the body. A great way of keeping your heart healthy!
If you are struggling to either lose weight or even maintain your weight, swimming is a great way to burn calories and to help keep your weight under control. Swimming doesn’t just have to be about ploughing up and down the pool, there is a great range of water based classes and Swim Fit challenges in all Brio’s pools that can help add variety to your workout. This will help you create good fitness habits which will have a positive benefit to your health in the longer term.
After a long day in the office or a hard days graft there is nothing like winding down and taking a relaxing swim to work off those stresses of the day! Release the ‘feel good’ chemicals which are known as endorphins by having a swim in one of Brio’s 6 swimming pools. Swimming evokes a feeling of relaxation due to the stretching and relaxing your muscles, combined with deep breathing. If you’re an early bird and would rather work out and invigorate yourself before you even get to work, then our pools all offer an early morning swim to set you up for the day!
Once you get into a good habit of swimming 2 or 3 times a week, you should ask our friendly centre staff about the great value for money ‘Brio Swim’ which starts from £17.00 a month for concessionary groups. If you want to enjoy the little extras of using the sauna, steam and Jacuzzis (subject to availability at certain pools) then enquire about our Brio Premier Membership which is an all-inclusive pass! This starts from as little as £26.00 for concessionary groups and is valid at all 6 swimming pools, so no matter where your day takes you, you will never be far from a Brio Leisure Swimming Pool! If you want to get your kids into good fitness habits then £16.00 a month will provide them access to unlimited swimming, plus much more!!
