Meet Stacey - a member of Brio Northgate who began her fitness journey through our 12-week weight management wellbeing programme. Initially referred through the NHS due to low mood, lack of motivation, and a desire to live a healthier lifestyle, Stacey’s transformation is nothing short of inspiring and has kickstarted a journey into lifelong fitness. Here’s what Stacey says about the experience for anyone who is considering taking that first step!

how did you kickstart your programme?

The wellbeing team were fantastic in guiding me through those first sessions. I saw a nutritionist regularly for a year, starting in January 2024, which helped me build confidence and better understand my journey.

With exercise, I started with low-impact classes, such as Zumba, and have gradually increased the intensity as my fitness improved and I now do Monday morning Bootcamp.

how did you find the experience?

Mentally, it was quite challenging. There are days when you feel like giving up and days where you feel that all the hard work isn’t paying off. But you have to remind yourself of the bigger picture, and that it’ll all be worth it. The team at Brio Northgate have been incredibly supportive and friendly - especially the reception team - who have encouraged me every step of the way. The centre is one big fitness family which is brilliant.

do you plan to continue your fitness journey?

Absolutely! Fitness has become a part of who I am which is something I never thought I’d say. I regularly visit the gym at Brio Northgate and take part in high-intensity classes which help me build on the fitness I’ve gained along with continuing weight loss. I have a newly found love for the outdoors and enjoy mountain running and trad climbing! I’m training for the Chester 10k, but my long-term goal is to complete an Ultra Marathon.

Everyone around me, such as friends and family, have also started a journey of their own and I couldn’t be prouder.
