International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day!

We’ve had the absolute pleasure of catching up with some incredible women from various roles and departments within our leisure centres across Cheshire West. These amazing women shared their thoughts on the importance of gender equality, personal inspirations, and even opened up about their hopes for the future. Here is a snapshot of the highlights!

Paula Jamieson: Commercial Director

What positive changes would you like to see for women in the future?

“That women and girls can feel safe at home, in the workplace and in our communities. That women and girls feel empowered to make decisions about all aspects of their lives without judgement or fear and that we celebrate our many successes. Everyone has a role to play in challenging negative behaviours, actions and unfair treatment of women and we all need to do this more. Most of all women should embrace who we are and simply love ourselves ”

Ange Leicester: Fitness Instructor at NMC

What makes you feel included at Brio?

“All the staff at NMC when I joined—Lee, Stella, and Tony. Stella especially has that ‘come on’ attitude and keeps going even when it gets tough. She really has the best attitude, and it comes across in so many ways. She helped me gain the confidence to teach my own classes. From battling massively with gym anxiety, and I now stand up tall.”

Carla Preece: Duty Manager Frodsham

Which women inspire you the most, and why?

“Frida Kahlo: Mexican feminist painter who encouraged women to speak up for their rights. Ruth Bader-Ginsburg: American lawyer who fought against gender discrimination. Michelle Obama, who was the first black First Lady of the United States.”

Julie Kirkham: Facility Manager at WLC

What’s the most valuable advice you’ve ever received?

“Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t achieve something. Set yourself a goal and then build manageable steps to get there, and don’t be frightened of failing at stages; just keep the end goal in mind!

“Always be kind to people you meet in your life. You don’t know when you might need kindness back, and behavior breeds behavior. Never judge people as you don’t know their story, but instead take time to find it out as you will be pleasantly surprised what people can bring to your life.”

Eloise Welch: Receptionist at Frodsham

What does gender equality mean to you?

“Gender Equality to me is all genders, be that man, woman, trans, non-binary, are all treated the same. There should not be any difference in pay, etc.”

“With working at Frodsham, I have found that my voice and opinions matter, and I do get listened to.”

And there we have it, a glimpse into the remarkable experiences and aspirations of the incredible women who make our leisure centres thrive. These conversations have been a source of valuable insights, shedding light on the strength and resilience within our community of women. Wishing everyone a Happy International Women’s Day! 🌟
