High Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT, is a great way of maximising your time and getting fantastic results with a shorter workout. We offer loads of different HIIT classes across our centres, including:

But why go for HIIT? We spoke to Jane, our lovely Gym & Fitness Lead at Northgate Arena, and she gave us a rundown of just why HIIT is so good for you.
It’s a workout that just keeps working!
HIIT burns more calories during and after the workout than long, continuous training sessions.
The bursts of increased intensity increase the calorific expenditure so more calories are burned, giving you better body composition. You’ll burn more calories for about 2 hours after exercising too!
It’s perfect for busy lives
You’ll cut your workout time in half! You’ll be getting the same (if not greater!) results in half the time of longer workout sessions at a lower intensity.
It’s not all just sprints
A recent study in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that there’s more to HIIT than just sprinting it out. Research showed that people who did cycling intervals and people who did bodyweight moves such as burpees saw similar improvements to their heart rate and the maximum volume of oxygen they were able to use while exercising.
It compliments your longer workouts
HIIT can help increase endurance. Try this: next time you’re on a run or bike ride, pick up the pace for 60 seconds. Recent studies have shown that just one minute of high intensity work on an otherwise less taxing workout can boost your overall health, including your blood pressure.
